E-Commerce

back to shopping online

European Directive 2000/31/EC, more commonly known as E-Commerce, specifies certain instructions to the trader, relating to information that they need to provide to consumers if they are selling online.

For example:

  • The name of the trader and a geographical address at which they are established.

  • Details of the trader, including an electronic mail address, which allows for direct and effective communication.

  • The steps that the consumer needs to take to enter into a contract with the trader.

  • The trader needs to acknowledge receipt of the consumers order without undue delay and by electronic means.

The rights provided by this Directives is the minimum level of protection you can expect from all across Europe. If the web trader is based within Europe their website is expected to provide you with all the information about what it is you want to buy and there contact details should be easily available for you to find.

This information is intended as guidance, to provide an idea of what protection there is available for you as a consumer when shopping on line. If you do happen to find yourself in dispute with a web trader or what to know more we would always suggest seeking further information and advice.
